Psychological assessments for adults

Understand what’s happening. Find a clearer way forward.

You may be noticing patterns you cannot quite explain, wondering about a particular condition, or looking for a clearer understanding of your strengths and difficulties. An assessment brings together your experiences, relevant history and carefully selected assessment tools to help clarify what is happening and what may help.

Assessments are arranged by enquiry, not through the therapy calendar, so the scope and fee can be agreed with you first. The form asks only what the assessment is about.

Assessment options

Six areas, each shaped to your question.

Tools are selected for your question; nobody completes every test. For the five quoted assessments, scope, fee and any report are agreed with you before anything begins. The adult ADHD assessment is a standard $890 package.

Comprehensive mental health assessment

For adults who are unsure what is happening, or whose difficulties overlap.

Explores: Current symptoms, relevant history, day-to-day functioning and contributing factors, to build a psychological understanding and clear recommendations.

Clarifies the picture well enough to decide on next steps; no single assessment can identify or rule out every condition.

Personality and psychological functioning

For adults who want to understand their patterns, not just their symptoms.

Explores: Recurring patterns in emotion, relationships, coping and behaviour — strengths as well as areas of difficulty.

Personality assessment does not automatically mean a personality-disorder diagnosis.

Autism and neurodevelopmental screening

For adults wondering whether autism or another neurodevelopmental difference may be part of the picture.

Explores: Relevant traits and developmental experiences, to help decide whether a further, more specialised assessment is appropriate — and what kind.

Screening is not a formal autism diagnostic assessment.

Trauma and PTSD assessment

For adults living with the effects of traumatic experiences.

Explores: Trauma-related symptoms, their effect on daily life, and the most appropriate next steps — including whether trauma-focused therapy is indicated now, later, or alongside other support.

A clinical assessment for understanding and treatment planning, not a forensic or compensation report.

Career interests, strengths and work preferences

For adults weighing a change of direction, or trying to understand why work keeps feeling wrong.

Explores: Interests, values, strengths and the environments you work best in, to inform career decisions with more than guesswork.

Not a fitness-for-work, occupational capacity, recruitment or medicolegal assessment.

Adult ADHD assessment

A separate assessment pathway with a standard package.

Explores: A detailed clinical interview, standardised rating scales and consideration of other explanations, followed by a written report.

Assessment may or may not support an ADHD diagnosis. Psychologists do not prescribe, and a report does not guarantee medication or acceptance by another practitioner.

$890 standard package Two appointments and a written report. Additional appointments, if agreed first, are $198.

How the ADHD assessment works

How assessment works

Agreed first, then done properly.

The methods are chosen for your question — not the other way round.

  1. 01

    Discuss your questions and goals

What you want to understand, and what a useful answer would let you do differently.

  2. 02

Agree the assessment scope and fees

Ask for a quote: what will be covered, what it will cost, and whether a written summary or full report is included — all confirmed before you commit.

  3. 03

    Complete the assessment activities

Relevant interviews, questionnaires and other suitable assessment activities, selected for your question. Some can be done by video; some cannot — you’ll know which at step two.

  4. 04

Review the findings and next steps

A feedback conversation that explains what was found, what it means, and what is recommended.

What you receive

An explanation you can use.

Feedback
A conversation, not a hand-over of documents: what the assessment found, in plain language.
A clear explanation of findings
How the pieces fit together — symptoms, history, functioning, contributing factors — and what the assessment can and cannot conclude.
Recommendations
Practical next steps, which may include therapy, referral to another practitioner, further assessment, or none of these.
Written summary or comprehensive report
Whether one is included, and which, depends on the service agreed at the start. A written report is included in the standard adult ADHD package.

Questions

Before you enquire.

Start with the question, not the label.

Tell Liam what you’re trying to understand. A quote and the scope come next, agreed with you before anything begins.
