How we help
ADHD assessment for adults
Many adults reach midlife with a long history of difficulty with focus, organisation, follow-through or restlessness, and a growing suspicion that there is a pattern behind it. A proper assessment gives you a clear, evidence-based answer and, if ADHD is identified, a report that supports the next step.
Assessment is arranged by enquiry rather than through the therapy calendar, so suitability, scope and fees are agreed with you first.
Who assessment is for
- Adults who suspect they may have ADHD and want a thorough, independent assessment.
- People referred by a GP or psychiatrist for psychological assessment prior to treatment decisions.
- Adults diagnosed in childhood who need a current assessment.
What the assessment involves
The assessment is conducted by telehealth. It includes a detailed clinical interview covering your history from childhood onward, standardised rating scales, and consideration of other explanations for the difficulties you are experiencing, since anxiety, depression, trauma and sleep problems can all look like ADHD. Where possible, we also gather information from someone who knew you as a child or knows you well now. The standard package is two appointments and a written report; the scope is confirmed with you before the assessment begins.
You then receive a comprehensive written report with the findings, a diagnostic opinion and recommendations. An assessment does not always conclude that ADHD is present — sometimes the better answer is a different explanation for the difficulties, and the report says so. Psychologists do not prescribe medication. If medication is something you want to explore, the report is written to support a referral, but the prescribing doctor decides what weight to give it and some psychiatrists prefer to complete their own assessment.
Is telehealth suitable for assessment?
Yes. Adult ADHD assessment relies on structured interview and validated questionnaires, both of which work well by video.
Fees and what’s included
The $890 standard ADHD assessment package includes two appointments and a written report. The standard therapy Medicare rebate does not apply to this package. If you have private health cover, check with your fund about any contribution before booking.
If additional assessment is needed beyond the agreed package, Liam will explain why and agree any additional fees with you before proceeding. Additional appointments are $198. All fees.
How to arrange an assessment
Start by sending an assessment enquiry. Liam will discuss what you want to understand, confirm suitability, and agree the assessment scope and fees with you. The practice will then arrange your assessment appointments. You don’t need a referral.
