Relationships, sexuality and identity

Understand yourself. Build more meaningful relationships.

Relationships can bring connection, intimacy and belonging. They can also bring uncertainty, conflict and patterns that are difficult to understand or change.

Individual therapy offers space to explore how you relate to others, what matters to you, and how you want to grow — within relationships and within yourself.

Individual therapy for adults. Couples counselling is not offered.

A place to understand your patterns

You may notice that the same difficulties follow you from one relationship to another. Perhaps you withdraw when things become uncomfortable, struggle to express what you need, fear rejection, or find yourself caught between wanting closeness and protecting yourself.

Together, you can explore your behaviour with curiosity and honesty: what you have learned, what you are trying to protect, how your actions affect other people, and what you would like to do differently.

The focus is on developing greater self-understanding, taking responsibility where it matters, and finding more satisfying ways to connect.

Relationships, sexuality and identity

Liam has extensive experience supporting people with relationship concerns and questions about sexuality and identity. He has worked with LGBTQIA+ people across a wide range of experiences, including people who are non-binary or gender-fluid.

You are welcome whether you feel clear about your identity, are questioning, or prefer not to use a label. There is no expectation that you need to reach a particular conclusion.

Sessions can offer space to explore intimacy, attraction, belonging, disclosure, family expectations and the relationship between how you see yourself and how you feel able to live.

Your sexuality or gender does not need to be the focus of therapy simply because it is part of who you are.

Experience with men from many walks of life

Liam has worked extensively with men in mining, construction and labouring roles, as well as professionals, managers and executives.

People arrive with different circumstances, but often share questions about connection, vulnerability, expectations and how to talk about what is happening beneath the surface.

You do not need to be comfortable with the language of therapy. You can start with your experience and find words that make sense to you.

What you might bring

  • Recurring conflict or difficulties communicating what you need.
  • Trust, jealousy, boundaries or fear of rejection.
  • Intimacy, sexuality or questions about identity.
  • Separation, relationship endings or adjusting to being single.
  • The impact of work, stress or expectations on your relationships.
  • A wish to understand your behaviour and develop more fulfilling connections.

Individual support for your relationships

These appointments are individual therapy. Liam does not offer couples counselling.

You can attend while in a relationship, after one has ended, or while thinking about the relationships you want in your life. The work centres on your experiences, choices and growth, while recognising that relationships involve other people whose responses you cannot control.

Fees, Medicare and referrals

Sessions are $198 for 50+ minutes. Where you’re eligible, with a Mental Health Treatment Plan and a valid referral, Medicare rebates $101.55 per session for up to 10 sessions a year, leaving $96.45 out of pocket. The practice can submit the claim for you after your appointment.

You don’t need a referral to book. If you want to use Medicare, ask your GP for a Mental Health Treatment Plan and referral; it can be arranged before or after your first session. Full fee and Medicare information.
